overservoing

Post by SteveClem »

now I hate my wife's new Golf. Ok it's well made, comfy, economical, etc. Brakes great at speed but crawling off the drive, brake at your peril...head off the windscreen!! Seems makers are 'overservoing' new cars because drivers, in emergencies, aren't pushing brakes hard enough to activate abs. More 'Nanny State' or common sense? Never had this prob with the previous modern Toyota, so it's not just me...or is it??

Father-in-Law's Renault is exactly the same. Surely with everything computer controlled, there could be progressive servoing.

I'm glad I have seen this thread, I thought it was me. The works van, a Citrion is just the same. Fine at anything over 10 MPH but if you get caught in traffic it's either crawl or dead stop. The only way to get a slow stop is to press on the pedal just off biting then squeeze the toes, even then it does not always work

I would have thought drivers automatically jump on everything in an emergency, it's virtually instinctive! Same as if something is thrown at you, you don't just stand there---you duck!

From the aftermath of accidents I have seen these days it seems they just say sh*t and swerve all over the place taking out as much as they can in the process.

Most moderns now have emergency 'brake assist' - where if the pedal is pressed to a certain force - the system takes over and jams on the brakes even harder relying on the anti-lock to get the best stopping distance, and also bringing on the hazard lights. I've certainly not had any trouble with over sensitive brakes.

I drive a 03 golf and my wife has a 06 golf and when i drive her car i have to brake with less force than when i drive my car .its just a case of driving differently for each car ,I work in a accident repair shop and when the car is finished have to test drive the car, different models of car have their own characteristics of handling and breaking

My previous modern car, a Škoda Fabia, had no feel through the pedal. Tickle it with my foot and the car was scrubbing speed off very quickly indeed. The current modern car, a Citroën C4, has fantastic brakes. It was the first difference I noticed over the Škoda.

Isn't the garlic a dealer fitted option?

Ford make very good cars... but their common rail diesels are notoriously unreliable and expensive to fix

How does that make them 'good cars' then? :D I wonder if there is a car that everyone says is 'good' !
