Last flight of the Vulcan

Post by TFM150K »

For those interested in the Vulcan V-bomber XH558 which had its very last flights recently, Guy Martin is presenting a 90 minute programme on Channel 4 on Sunday next (29th) at 7.30pm.

I saw it a couple of months ago, it flew over our branch event to and from a display. We just happened to be under it's flight path.
Still miss the Concords flying over Reading

At the NEC last week I was talking to a chap I know (ex Red Arrows number 7) who said he had spoken to a Warrant Officer who had been involved in maintaining one of the grounded Concords and it is being prepared for being flight-worthy again.....
Don't hold your breath!
But if you want something for Christmas for yourself, the 2 hour DVD of the visit of Vera (the Canadian Lancaster) is now available - £19.99 plus post - Google it!

Damn marvellous program. I loved the point where the nose wheel wouldn't come down properly so they called for any military aircraft to inspect them, and the RAF scrambled.... a Spitfire. As the chap in the program said "not a dry eye in the house". At the last Branch Liaison Meeting at Ullesthorpe the chap who taught Guy Martin to drive the tow truck was admiring our Traveller. Several of the past Vulcan crew were staying there for a golf day. Mutual admiration socienty

I don't have a Merlin, but I do have a Ford E93A that came out of the bomb-loader-tug at RAF station close to me, collected from the designated scrap-yard minutes after it had been delivered there. My little bit of Cold War history (and spare engine for my Morgan).
I presume that even those of us who don't like Guy Martin enjoyed the programme (Roy).

Ok so it's only a model but here is a video of XH558 in its "nuclear" colours displaying at a large model aircraft event in 2013.

Sorry - can't stand Guy Martin, after he did a railway programme (maybe a series?) which was full of pratishness and many many serious errors - so I didn't watch. I'm told it was a good programme - shame it wasn't presented by someone sensible - like Jeremy Clarkson....

i think guy martin is good hes pragmatic , thaughtful and respects what people have done .he has a good engineering understanding . he is not going to know everything about railways or aircraft , he would of been working from a script .i still have respect for the man , we need more guy martins and less clarksons .

Oh Clarkson can be very very good as a presenter when it's a serious subject. Yes - they all clown about on Top Gear, which is what the programme is all about! And absolutely why it is so successful.

Very enjoyable program. I'm a Clarkson fan, but when it comes to the actual mechanics of things Guy Martin is the new Fred Dibnah.

Jeremy Clarkson is a very clever man and knows his motoring not like Chris Evans who is useless
