Getting back to the original post, I simply cannot bear it when people being interviewed on the radio are asked a question and begin their answer with the word 'so'. How rude!! This does not address the interviewer and just completely dismisses them as if the question was not even asked Aaaaarggh!! Pretentious numbskulls!! I shout at the radio no no no do not say 'so'!! I wish they could hear me.

I hadn't really noticed 'So' so much. Maybe I don't listen enough. My personal hates include 'like' interjected randomly into an otherwise reasonable statement: "it's been, like, really cold this weekend"
And (I nearly said people starting sentences with 'and' then...) beloved by footballers and managers when interviewed: "At the end of the day...."
Happily out of the office and management speak world now, so I don't have to 'take anything on board and give it due consideration' :)
cheers

Answers to a question that start "yeah no". Either you want to answer yes, no or in length. Not all three!

When addressing the contestants in the miss world final, would it be in order to address them as Guys ? It seems ok when addressing other groups of women.

Anyone else noticed over several recent years the regularity of a standard stock reply, almost word for word, by senior company executives, politicians, senior military officers, health organisation bosses, transport company senior officials , childrens care and elderly care homes managers, financial services bosses, etc.etc. etc. When called to explain the latest most recent scandal involving their particular organisation.

"We assure you we are taking this event 'very seriously' and we have implemented certain procedures to 'ensure this never happens again' "

This scripted reply is now heard and repeated so often it makes you wonder about any genuine feelings or sincerity on behalf of that particular senior spokesperson (are they really thinking this is soon to be yesterdays news as another one will soon be along in a minute to take the spotlight off of our own particular scandal)

'In future' is old news. it's replacement 'going forward' is ideal for any dynamic, win-win organisation.

Anyone located the "Northern Powerhouse"?
Reminds me of the HS2 proposal and that I read that over 100 years ago a railway line from London to the North was constructed to the continental loading gauge. It's the only North-South mainline that was abandoned!
