Morris Minor Music

Post by TDV102 »

While Minors rarely came with in Car Entertainment, most of us have added it. What sounds come out the windows on your Morris?

Generally a stream of prayers that the gearbox will survive another journey! (iPod with Bon Jovi 'Livin' on a Prayer' on repeat would be appropriate!)

Have just found a nice 1959 Phillips LW/MW neg earth radio. Once installed, I suppose a few stations still broadcast on there

Haven't fitted a stereo to mine but I usually carry a portable Bluetooth speaker which actually does a pretty good job placed in the glove box.

Tunes are Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Rolling Stones and the like; good driving music.

I have a stereo in my passenger glove box (which has replaced the old originally positive earth cassette player) the speakers are on the parcel shelf . I rarely use it being alive to any extraneous new noises and rattles that may arise.

Mine had a Harry Moss tape player and a Radiomobile radio, plumbed in to an amp and 25W speakers in home made enclosures. Typically Floyd, Hawkwind, Zeppelin, Zappa, Gong and mix tapes of 70s rock. My next one is going full digital hifi. Same sort of playlist - my head never left the 70s!

I know the feeling. I can never get into mine without hearing Breakfast in America by Supertramp and Out of the Blue by ELO two albums whose tapes were stretched and played to death in 1979 in my A level year bumbling around the Buckinghamshire back roads. Classic tracks!!!

There was a 'minor ' hit some years ago by 'Morris Major and the Minors '? Think it was by the comic who later wrote a book about taking a fridge around Ireland? Or am I going totally mad?

Clocked your age now...my A level year was a little earlier, 1971.
Both were good vintages.

Just OLD will suffice. I wonder what the average age of a Minor owner is these days? I know there is a young section of the MMOC but I bought mine at 17 and have had it nearly 40 years. What makes a 17 year old want a Morris these days (Then again why did I want one at that age - probably because HCO945 series 2 convertible - was such a big part of my childhood).

Its important as they will be are the future of the club / marque.

Hmm. thats inflation.....Mine cost £200 with both front wings flapping like Dumbo's ears and half the rear NS wing missing. I spent every school lunch hour for a week in a scrap yard in High Wycombe 3 cars up chiselling my way through the captive nuts on a decent rear wing.. filled and painted the front ones. learned a huge amount.

My 1970 Minor was bought new by my Uncle and has ended up with me . He was a great Little Richard fan so that would be the music that should accompany me on a journey in her ( if there was any method of playing it ) .

I have still got my 45 rpm, in its cover, of this song. They played it relentlessly at the national Rally at Donnington sometime in the late 70's early 80's.
