At risk of losing my dignity, I once tried putting yogurt in a tortilla when there was nothing in the fridge, it was surprisingly nice... but I wouldn't try it again

Try making your own yoghurt-it's really nice if you get it right.

Now I can't remember if I've posted this before, but this stuff is rather drinkable.

Thinking of monks, I'm sure it was a bottle of Abbot Ale I took home the other night.

On the subject of whiskey (I am not a spirit drinker), I was recently reminded of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIctcgsDWNs (Go to 25.45), which discusses how rocks affect the flavour of whiskey. I am sure it must apply to beer. I know that Shepherd & Neame's bottles refer to their own well in Kent.

Old Speckled Hen used to be my favorite ale when it was made by the Morland Brewery, Abington. When the production of Speckled Hen moved to the Greene King Brewery, Bury St Edmunds the taste changed considerably (which I understand was down to the change of well water) and was not to my liking so I gave up drinking Speckled Hen Ale. Now I tend to drink Tribute from the St Austell Brewery.

You are probably aware of the motoring connection to "Old Specked Hen" are you Phil?
I remember its introduction.

Oh yes - Old works MG works runabout, black and covered in gold speckles so aptly named 'Speckled Hen'.

Old Speckled Hen also do a decent gluten-free beer, which is a rare thing indeed! Just been told I have Coeliacs - so cruel for a real ale fan, especially one with a taste for stouts and porters. Home brew may be a good solution. For now I'll just risk the odd cheeky normal beer.

Why would home brew be the solution?

Tonight's brew, from Box Steam Brewery, in Trowbridge. They do about 6 ales, all with a railway theme. Derail Ale is next in line.

I can strongly recommend Derail Ale.

I'm a big fan of St Austell's Proper Job, one of the best IPAs out there.

I'm not a massive IPA fan, but Derail was nice. I've had Proper Job, but I prefer dark, sweet beers really.

I sometimes use IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) for cleaning things. 99.9% pure Alcohol, wouldn’t drink it though

I picked up a box of assorted ales from a shop in Lynmouth in 2017. Was going to give them as Xmas presents, but forgot about them, and they've been hidden in the back of the wardrobe for 2 years! They're out of date now, so I'm going to drink them myself

Bogof update today. First up is this beauty:-
Surfer Rosa, from Madrigal Brewery, Lynmouth. A lively little number, despite being 18 months out of date! Tasty and aromatic too, though a little too like an IPA for my liking.

Next up is tonight's beverage:-
Hunter's Full Bore, from Ipplepen, Devon. Contains Boudicea hops, which I've never heard of. Nice, full bodied, rounded, warming, reminiscent of a winter warmer. Right up my street!

Another lively little number from Madrigal. This was needed two glasses to contain all the froth. It's a fruity, treacly stout, just how I like them!
