ROSPA Road Safety film 1938

"The driving instructor at Lancashire Constabulary driving school goes out on the road in St.Helens to show examples of good and bad driving. He concentrates on gear changing, mirror watching, signalling and manoeuvres."

Some bit of it are a bit boringly slow, but a great insight into driving in the immediate pre-war period. Whole thing is 15 mins.

Some of the quips just have to be heard on the voice-over... such as the bit about 11 mins in, with the width restriction at the railway arch...

Excellent, enjoyed the trip back in time to 1938, different world back then...............
Sooty and Sweep in the 1960's was also good and then that led me into a some of Fred Dibnah's exploits in the series the BBC made about him in 1979, still lots of old cars, that we now consider classics, on the road and in regular use back then but I wonder how many shown in that series survive to the present day?.............

Yes, Sooty and Sweep was a fantastic show when they had the original, and best by far, presenter - Harry Corbett OBE. So funny. He was always exasperated, but ultimately resigned to Sooty and Sweep's chaos at the end of each episode......'Bye bye, everyone, bye bye!'

A couple of films to play Morris Minor spotting....

In the order you put them up, two in the first film (bet the traveller with no lights in the fog isn't around today) and three in the second, though I almost got caught out by a couple of MO's in that one.
At 0.23 in the first there is a large pre-war(?) car that I like the look of but can't identify?
And I do like 'Mr. Worthington's' Sunbeam Rapier convertible in the second film.
Sadly VRW 508 no longer exists on DVLA records.....
