Engine and suspension swap -advice needed
Is there a nice and easy engine and suspension swap for those that are wanting to improve upon the original engine/suspension? If so what are they? Bear in mind most of the work will be done by me and money is tight. Will be going onto a Minor saloon.
Thanks
Aaron

A ford 1600 crossflow and type 9 box, mated to an escort rear axle? (70's) If you go modern you will be looking at fuel injection and an ecu? How much effort and time, and budget are we looking for? As for suspension, other than the jlh a arm coil overs, and 5 linked, uprated dampers is about all you can do really..

What cars would that engine be in? As for budget as cheap as possible, I'm a family man so not got a lot of spare cash! Would ideally like a 2.0 ltr engine or 1.8 ltr. I'm not a mechanic but I can weld, cut etc. Brother in law is a mechanic though.

2.0 zetec, through a standard type 9 (pinto bellhousing) (escort rear axle) Have a look on turbosport for budget zetec installations, using a cvh you can modify your own sump, flywheel, clutch etc. Also possible to make a home made water rail and exhaust system. Also would probably be cheaper to carb it (twin downdraught using adapter and manifold) or fitting bike carbs (make your own manifold)

Re: Engine and suspension swap -advice needed
the toyota 4age engine will fit when mated to a either the toyota 5 speed box or the type 9 ( with special bell housing )
the K series can be mated to a type 9..
rear axle ford escort. 80/90s cars get to wide fro the axle to fit under a moggy and most tend to be front wheel drive
( edited to say what I meant not what i wrote )

There are a few being built.......Alex'n'Ane wrote:How about the mx5 engine and box? No one has done it yet, but cant see why not...
The engine is too long for the standard Minor engine bay though.

Re: Engine and suspension swap -advice needed
I have seen the beardmore brothers fitted a minor shell to mx5 running gear, but that was a few years ago and nothing since... Would be interested to hear of any others. Interesting/disappointing to hear its too longInnovator wrote:There are a few being built.......Alex'n'Ane wrote:How about the mx5 engine and box? No one has done it yet, but cant see why not...

Best bet imo would be to find an engine and box that someone has taken out of a kit car, maybe a little k-series?

A zetec st170 will be way way way out your budget! How old are you? Why not keep it basic by fitting by fitting a 1275 Mg engine to start with and a decent set of shocks and brakes?

Re: Engine and suspension swap -advice needed
Sorry to say it, but if a second hand twin-cam conversion is out of your league, then I don't think you will find anything else.. Tbh for any modern injected conversion, you will probably be looking of £1000 upward, thats still with a lot of your own work, doing a crazy amount of work yourself and bodging some bits, it could be done for less, but still not a lot cheaper..Bald Moggie Man wrote:Twin Cam is out of my price league
