Traveller with a chop

Post by sandywobble »

Hi all thought I would put a post up as i have been working on this traveller for the last 12 months floor pan is almost original I have a arm coil over front with disc brakes and escort Mk 2 rear axle rolling on weld racing slot mags engine is Mazda with gearbox roof chopped 3" at rear standard height at front but as car has low stance at front looks about rite to me.
Side sills have been re worked as have the bottom of the doors the wood has been modified to suit also changed rear doors to flip up and down. I Was hopping to have the car painted but just moving house so on hold for a wee bit now.

When I first read your post about the chop I thought YUK, but I'm impressed! Well done.

Doors and wings look to have had some work as well . Not sure it I like the rear chop may look OK if rear was jacked up to level rear roof section . imho

As beero says - I too was horrified when I read your description, but looks better than I expected in the flesh....... I really don't like the big wheels etc - but you are certainly making a very workmanlike job of it!

Engine is Mazda mx5 with5 speed gearbox also using pedal box and master cylinders from same.
I have had to notch the engine bay cross member and then strengthen the area behind it and also tied it to the main chassis legs at the front.
I have replaced the front legs with 100mm x 50mm 3mm box section bot installed it to look as per original except I have also welded in sold outrigers to the sills. The front suspenssion has lower A arms mounted using bushes and brackets from a lotus seven replica chassis . Coil over shocks at front but kept top Armstrong units to keep it looking factory built from engine bay.
