A day off last weekend, and well worth it, out at the Tate with a dear friend and enjoying a bit of culture, food and wine!

Holes, Holes and holes, having totally stripped the car of paint, rubber under seal and bituminous acoustic stuff, theres lot to repair, SODA blasting in the next few weeks then hours of cutting and welding. Although i could patch up the front chassis arms, i am going to replace the whole lot on both sides, a big task, but worth it in the long run. Question to other builders, has any one used the JLH frame stiffener kit? Wondered on fit and value? Other than that thought about copying John Beardmore with all his mods instead.

This is the lowest I’ve felt for a while, but ahead lies a newly blasted tub and lots of positive work!

Been a while, nearly ready for the blasters, stripped with all the crap removed, all bits for the powder Coaters ready, all the bits for the carbon laminaters ready. Really been tough old time, found that HERIC panels fit better than aftermarket, so now on the lookout for old NOS panels, some images to keep you happy.

Finally got the shell and main body parts, blasted, very surprised at how good the tub is, the usual peppered panels, and mainly all the right places are OK.
So now the work starts in Ernest to get it ready for paint, lots of work ahead, enjoy the up dated images

UPdate , started welding and slowly working my way through the car, decided that if a panel has less than 25% rot or holes, it will be replaced, taking my time. Bought a spot weld so that should help with some of the tricky welding. Hope you like the build so far!

Started a little bit of dietary works, new Aluminum hinges, drilled and blasted, to be finished in bead tumbler and finished bright, and the handles all drilled and awaiting new coat of chrome.

Ned to remove the pin, and replace with titanium pin, and new backing plates will be T5 Aluminum, and new ti bolts too.

Too hot in shop to weld at the moment, so holding back on light work for a while, its nice to have good weather but not at 42 degrees in the workshop!

Enjoy

Thankyou, good to hear someone understands all the work, been a little dark lately, but now the push is on to do all the chassis and flooring. anything with a hole is getting full panel replacement, yes really. So taken a little longer than i thought, still go nowt else to do, better crack on!

The finished quality of my engine, this not being mine, but you get the jist, this is fiat 131, with a blower, mines a Lancia VX head and blower all matching numbers.
There have been many people doubting and dissing GC work, go ahead, i dont care, its going to be money well spent, and carrying on drive your Fiat that will implode in the not too distant future!

Final diet and numbers, not sure if its worth it, or whether it would be cheaper if I lost the weight but hey here goes:

Hinges Original steel:
Large 552g each
Small 445g

Replacement Hinges Ally:
Large 476g each
Small 336g

Hinges Ally after a diet of drilling, and tumbling:
Large 391g
Small 294g

Pins standard 37g each
Titanium 20g each

Bolts standard 10g
Titanium 4.5g

Metal plates in doors:
Large 283g
Small 149g

Not got weights on the ally replacements, update that later.

Essentially theres been over half a kilo of saving, excluding the amount i chopped out of the doors, will post final weights when its all built.
The cost so far £120 hinges, bolts £25, time cutting, drilling and polishing, who knows, enjoyment factor 10 plus!

Some prototyping testing this weekend, need to mock up heads and cam wheels in place and check the mini thermostat fits, but essentially I will now go to fine print and check again. Then off to get machined
