Pick up Restoration (Part 1)

Dear god.

I have an LCV tank in rather better nick, if you fancy taking it on. Needs a bit of restoration but nothing too serious. shout if you want it (we have to get rid of a lot of stuff by the end of this weekend...

It's all Minor-related; I've never been into any classics other than Minor LCVs

Today I've been checking out local tool retailers, I'm after some dollies, I need at least two to get the car up the drive into the garage, so I can start restoration work now its nearly stripped. my local auto factors want £80 for a pair! yet classics monthly has an ad by "machine mart" for a pair of clark dollys for £46, nearest outlet in Portsmouth to me. has anyone else used these machine mart people?

Just look at this old botched repair to the r/o/s corner. looks like whoever did this didn't really care a lot about the car, it was a farm, the car was a commodity, they did what was needed to get it through its MOT I guess. Lets face it, when this orrible repair was done, you could easily buy a low milage 1000 pickup from your local dealer for very little.

you could make some much cheaper than that!

4 casters and about 12 ft of 3x2 and some screws would do the job!

Not an ideal pic but you can sort of see what I did here to get my spridget resto in and out of the garage.

Looks like just the sort of repair I would do on a run-of-the-mill old banger, down to the inevitable red oxide primer! As you say, when it was done the Minor was probably just an old banger. Will we ever feel like this about a Ford Focus? I doubt it!

There's a very handy three pin socket located just above the boot hole on the drivers side.

I've also got my eye on this van on e bay (330319684556.) says it was a runner before being garaged. wings look usable, I wonder what the chassis is like? might be worth a shufti. its inexpensive at the moment, but then again those rear pickup parts went for over £500 in the end, I was staggered.

Matt you're an inspiration, "improvise, adapt & overcome" as clint Eastwood once said. Here's a picture of my home made engine and cab dolly. If it can take the lump, it can handle the cab. with four B&Q casters, some stout lengths of timber and away we go.

Thats how you do it David

underbody is covered in shutz... a kind of underseal... This was when I was learning about doing all this sort of stuff a few years ago and I would leave the underbody painted now - stonechip underneath and then a colour of some description on top (probably an epoxy based paint)

Is stonechip applied by hand brush or is it best sprey painted on?
