Pick up Restoration (Part 1)

I was hoping that after clearing away the thorns and reeds growing up this old pickup, that I would be pleased to see the general condition to be salvagable. sadly mother nature has been too successful at doing her job of pulling back to the earth, the moggie, from where she originally came. Does anyone think I can save anything here. The bonnet looks like a proper pickup one. it felt solid at the edges and springy in the mid panel area. Can anyone tell me where the bonnet release catch is on a pickup.
I\'d like to get shots \"under the hood\".<br>[img:abfb2266a0]http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1238323169_9563[/img:abfb2266a0]<br><br>[img:abfb2266a0]http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1238323245_9563[/img:abfb2266a0]<br><br>Image<br>

The bonnet pull is under the dash on the driver's side.

Here's the other picture you tried to attach:

With a new chassis and some (well quite a lot really) work - it could be back on the road!

do you think? the sills have gone on the nearside, its been neglected rather than mistreated, so its complete at least. <br>Image<br>

Serious project - but because you can get a complete new chassis for these - it's certainly possible.

i would expect a new chassis, or the old woul dbe possibly to far gone to repair
the floors will almost be gone and all the ills etc
inner wings would pro need repair or replace

so really not a lot or even offered free to get rid

Yep - free to take away would be my approach!

thanks I'll give that a go, with scrap prices at an all time low I might seal a free deal, this wings had it, what do you think?<br>Image<br>

Oh - most of it has 'had it' it's a very serious resto, but not impossible!

i am afraid that most of the pick up front would be like that

i would say maybe the pick up sides were the only thing worth saving if not to bad
can you do a closer pic of that area

New chassis is £700 - but 'not available' at the moment. You would need a budget of ~ £4000 to put this on the road - and many happy hours of hard labour!

thanks minor maniac, its probably the only time happy and hard labour fit together in the same line.

certainly the pick up sides look very salvagable

i have seen sides in simialr condition go for £200.00 to £300.00
as unlike van sides there are none available
new old stock van sides do come up from time to time, but i have yet to see any new old stock pick up sides

I sold some good ones for £250 - must have been too cheap! No wonder the first guy to ask me bought them ;-)

There was a saveable chassis on ebay last week went for less than for £200. A new one went last week for about £700.
Cab sills and floors are not impossible - the most expensive stuff will be items like the rear bed floors...

i would think the best route is to find a better chassis, or even a space frame chassis could be made up and then hot rodded
