The original control and fuse box in situ on the pickup relic after I had just recovered it from the Farm hedgerow.[frame]Image[/frame]

someone wisely advised me to leave a stub of wire when I removed anything electrical, this I did and it helped me out today fitting them to the new wiring loom.[frame]Image[/frame]

nearly there labelling all the wires, the section hanging over the wing on the right side of the picture are connectors to the fuel tank and rear lights, I wonder if this section goes back underneath the car, it is protected by a rubber sleave, possibly to guard against road muck and debris?[frame]Image[/frame]

Yes- under the pick up.Down to the transmission tunnel, left of the engine looking to the back, over the gearbox cross member, to the back. You should find metal tangs on the underside, to hook the loom over, as you go.
Don't bend the tangs tight until you know the positioning is spot on.I'm not sure of the exact fixings at the back of a pick up
but I'm sure it's not rocket science.
New grommets where it passes through metal body parts of course.A split ( lengthwise ) rubber hose can be used over the cross member where it is close to the underside of the vehicle.

Thanks Bob, I'll get a split hose on it where it passes over and through the crossmembers under the cab.[frame]Image[/frame]

the rearmost wires come up short of the rear floor cable hole, I guess the rear light wires come down through the grommeted hole to meet up with these bullet connectors. Not sure as Ive not purchased any lights yet.[frame]Image[/frame]

back up the front end again, the cable that goes to the rear is on the right, it forks and divides with the loom that travels down to the Dynamo, the left side I think goes down to the headlights comes across the front under the radiator to the other headlamp. The fork at the bottom left provides two wires to the horn.

and then I'm left with this seperate wire, I guess this goes to the rear lights on the near side(UK).I am rather puzzled as there are no connectors on the end at the left of the picture, Is this usual I wonder.

David
Not being familiar with pick ups but is it anything to do with the rear number plate light ?
You would need a reasonable length to get you from the bullet connector block ( for rear lights )
to the centre or one side of the tailgate for the number plate, hiding/ clipping the cable inside
the re-inforcing edge ? Or does the number plate sit below the tailgate ?
What colours are there and do they tie up with the wiring diagram ?

Thanks Irmscher, it may be a good car one day, but that will take quite a while, getting it up and through its MOT and on the road is my goal at the moment, then over time, and spreading the cost she'll be gradually improved.
Bob you may be right about that seperate part of the loom being partly for the rear number plate light, the light sits inside the rear valance panel, there is an aperture for it. haven't got that yet, or the rear light bullet block, but as I aquire these components I'm sure the electrical fog will lift.
The Voltage stabiliser is next on the agenda, as you can see its in a sad state, I have two to choose from, the priviledge of buying a basket case donor pickup. The pickup relic one is the best, the additional one has part of the insulation plastic/bacalite broken away.[frame]Image[/frame]

that made up my mind, quite obviously, which one to clean up and use, sadly the spade connector male that takes the ignition white wire with red tracer broke off, the thick brown wire goes on the other side, I wonder if I can use the spade connector from the broken unit like this and use it to connect the ignition wire?[frame]Image[/frame]

connected up like this the two wires that are meant to connect to the Voltage stabilizer unit/ switch starter solenoid, but the ignition wire now shares the same terminal bolt as the main battery lead, anyone know if that'll work?[frame]Image[/frame]

that connection won't work. that connection that has broken off is the switching circuit to actuate the relay for the starter. when you turn your ignition key, first position is ignition live, 2nd position is 'start'. that 'start' triggers the solenoid to complete the circuit between the battery and the starter motor. with that wire connected as it is, to the battery side of the solenoid, when you turn the key, diddly-squat will happen. the only way you will be able to start the engine will be to stick a spanner accross the connections.

buy a new solenoid. they cost very little!

with the extra brain power provided by my brother in law, over a beer, we managed to work out the rear light layout, its like this with the male bullet connectors joining the long rearmost end of the main loom in a bullet block, the short end goes to the rear offside corner, the middle red wire with the black earth wire going to the number plate light, ( Bob, thank you) and the bare wire ends connecting with the rear nearside lights. now I have a plan.

I feel inclined to point out, David...
and then I'm left with this seperate wire, I guess this goes to the rear lights on the near side(UK).
This made me laugh, as at least in America, we don't say "near-side" and "off-side." I'd never heard those words before joining the messageboard. We just say "driver's side" and "passenger side" and if you said those, I'd quickly be able to translate in my head between RHD and LHD.
Take it for whatever it means. I'm not really sure why I said it.

I should say too that this is great! I'm going to install a new loom in about six weeks...your resto threads are very helpful!
The way to a man's heart may be making food, but the way to my heart is buying me car parts!

Sorry mate, I'll be more international from now on and say drivers or passengers side, when we say nearside we mean the side nearest the pavement (sidewalk) but I take your point that this is a world car.
