Of course you shouldn't use the jacking points on ANY car where they are seriously rusty but my own Minor still has the original jacking points factory fitted in 1958. I keep the area clean and rustproofed and have every faith in using then to jack the car up in the event of a puncture or similar. As Neil says...that's what they're there for :D

At home and doing serious work on the car I have a trolley jack and axle stands and would never venture underneath the car on the original jack, but for a roadside puncture or similar it should be fine. What on earth would be the point in fitting a new crossmember, new jacking points and the not using them :-?

Today was a busy day, I fitted supports to the tops of the chassis legs so I could remove the main cross member, removing the thing was not the easiest thing to do but it needed to be done .i had to cut half the tunnel off ,as it was welded underneath on the cross member[frame]Image[/frame]

The cross member all sorted , I only tacked the passenger side sill to the cross member at this time as il be replacing that at a later date , I fully welded the legs as well even though I'm replacing them ,this is to make sure I have a solid base to work on,[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

I'm definitely going to use them , seems a shame not to really .

Believe me ,I'm no pro at this sort of thing , I'm more used to welding new cars back together, this is way over my head , but I'm taking it slowly and measure everything more the 5 times !
