canvas tilt hooks
The sides to my pick up are the originals but unfortunately didn't come with the rope hooks. I bought a set from ESM only to find they fit using two holes and are fitted vertical. The holes I have are horizontal. I have bought a set of hooks for a series 1 land rover that have the correct size holes and all line up. Any ideas ? are series two tilt hooks different. Re: 55 pick up
As far as I know they are all the same, with vertical holes, the two at the tailgate end are double pronged, like the old fashion cloth line tie offs. Have pictures if you need and measurements for positions.

Re: 55 pick up
I have the double pronged and all the original holes are there, the thing is all the holes in the sides are also there but horizontal and I don't want to drill more then have to fill the holes that are left. The hook I've fitted using the original holes is a good fitles wrote:As far as I know they are all the same, with vertical holes, the two at the tailgate end are double pronged, like the old fashion cloth line tie offs. Re: 55 pick up
That's fair enough, and if you're happy with the ones you've got, that's the answer. Although I said in my last post that I think they were all the same, I have a vague feeling that there might have been some brass fittings used in the past, using a smaller hook but maybe like yourself people use what suits them.

I'll check AKD 3575 when I get some spare time.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

It's getting there. No engine under that bonnet yet but once I've sorted fitting the butt its the next job.

Looks good..........
However, and I hate to say it but you will find it allot easier to fit the engine with the front panel / bonnet removed, also less risk / worry of damaging them when fitting it.
Sorry if I'm stating the obvious but everything looks very neatly bolted together.....
Still, a morale boost to see a vision of it when completed.
Best wishes,
Mike.

Re: 55 pick up
On Saturday I did 23 miles to Carrs Garage of Tavistock the Pick ups first real run out. All went well I did stop a time or two to check how hot the engine was running seemed good. Lots of hills and lots of third gear at 25-mph engine seemed happy
[frame][/frame]
I had an appointment at 10.30 with the local paper who are doing a feature on the Pick up as Carrs Garage supplied it new in May 1955. Mr Carr 83 came over for a chat, he remembered Miss Hughes who bought it she used it as her run about. She owned it for 33 years and had it looked after by them.
I came home the long way round through Launceston a successful first drive out.
