Doors off, hinge is still stuck to car. Top hinge with three bolts that I can't get off for the life of me. I've tried everything![frame]Image[/frame]

I had the same problem on our hinges, some sheared and I had to drill the bolts out on others, fortunately I have had to remove the a pillar so it will just be a matter of replacing the nut plates.

Yeh my a pillar is ok, just a small patch needed at the bottom!

Use Panky's method for the hinge bolts. I always use that for stuck bolts and studs. The MIG puts so much heat in them that they never fail to come out. I find building up the weld inside an old oversize nut makes it even simpler to remove them.

Mine were really heavily rusted when I took the nut plates out to the point the threads were barely discernable, I doubt anything would have moved them, hopefully yours will be easier, if it comes to it and you have the wing off it is not too difficult to cut a small piece out of the front of the pillar replace the nut plate then weld the hole up.

Long time since I've replied, I got all the hinges off with a combination of blobs of weld and some of them I hammered on a smaller socket and used that to get them undone. Restoring them now and drivers door has had bottom repaired just waiting for funds so I can buy outer skin repair for it!

Followed your story with great interest. I bought a morris 1000 ten years ago that was on its way to the scrap yard. The scrapper had already hoisted it up by putting a rope around the roof - with the two doors open- and buckled the roof edge at both doors. I hope that it is panel beatable. Other than the roof problem I 'fear' that I will be very substantially doing what you did but with less pressure.

One question. Based on your experience with your mig welder. , what size / capacity and brand/maker of mig would you now recommend .

It's a sealey supermig 150, I think it's perfect really for starting. I did a ten week course which was the best thing really!

I agree! After the course I can now get some really good welds from it, I'm doing the door bottoms currently and they're coming up neater than I ever thought I could weld!

Sorry for no posts. Useless I know. Drivers door bottom done, just received the outer skin ready to start this week/next.

Cheers

Lines the outer panel up and cut out the rot....slight problem with new panel not matching the curve of the door, think it was squashed in transit, bit of bending then I'll start sticking him on!

Cheers!

Great project. Glad you made the wedding deadline. Atleast you can relax on the rebuild in your own time.

Trial fitted door, now off the car being filled and sanded as best I can. Turns out using filler well is tricky...[frame]Image[/frame]

Filled door, a few bits to tidy up on it and I need some new hinges then it's back on the car for good.[frame]Image[/frame]

Restoring my carb over winter, I've asked for a rebuild kit from Santa! Any tips for polishing it shiny?[frame]Image[/frame]

Pepsi and petrol.[frame]Image[/frame]

Good for cleaning. Just had my delivery of an SU rebuild kit, new float and float hinge pin and needle. Santa won't let me have it until December 25 though. Spoil sport.
