1955 4 Door Sedan, Take 2

Post by Demezas »

Hello all! So I've made a start on this Morris and I figured this would be the best place to ask about bits and pieces. It started off with an 803cc Gold Seal and a smooth box.

I would like to modify it with a new engine and box to cope with modern day traffic, diff too. Also do a disc brake conversion and suspension, if its not too troublesome. The only concern is the Q plate. So I plan to keep the steering assembly and axle un-modified. Which should give me the 8 points to qualify.

The plan is to get all the body, floor, doors and panels sound. Then to start on a few modifications.
  • Ford 1600 Crossflow
  • Ford Type 9 Gearbox
(Not sure which bell housing will be best fit the slimmer the better I assume)

Not sure on the prop shaft yet. A long way off that. I'm guessing the length will need adjusting, and a converter plate made up.
  • 3.7 or 3.9 Diff from a Wolseley / Riley 1500 or MG Midget
  • Would quite like coilovers all round, and lowered 1.5" - 2"
  • Front disc conversion (Currently researching the options kits and self made ones)
  • LED Halo driving light and xenon headlight conversion. Using the standard driving lights as indicators (as well as the semaphores)
Custom rear bullet style lights (think traveller, one above the other, counter sunk to retain horizontal placement) bottom one, ring of red LED's lights for rear lights with a red bulb in the middle for brake lights, and above it, ring of orange LED's for indicators and a white bulb for reverse lights.
I was wanting to fit some 215/45R17's all round, but I see its hard to fit 185's on the front and manage to pass the leg. Move the wheel out further and you risk straining the bearings and moving the pivot point away from the centre of the contact patch. Anyone know of any work arounds? Custom ford stub, and then fit some Escort or Cortina hubs? Would also make disc conversion easier.

Here is the car in its original condition.

Considering the type of modifications you're planning you would probably be better posting in the custom and modified section.

Sounds like a very interesting project but might get expensive
