Got a little deeper into it today.
I was half expecting to find the wheel arch flanges and the back floor lip rusted out and needing repair, Instead to my amazement a completely solid rust free floor pan with all lips and flanges in great shape. The areas around such things as spring hangers and such all like new .

Thats going to speed things up a whole lot.

All looks original Firedrake ,I can see the odd patch plate here and there [all well done and holding up] .Who ever done it last time used lots of underseal protection.
The wood had been varnished and I think that was its undoing , It got wet and had no way to dry out and just turned to dust in all the usual places.
Needless to say its not going to be that kind of finish this time.

Blimey that was very lucky! Apart from the sills they were the worst places on mine. I should take the varnish off my wood at somepoint. But will leave it for now as its only going to be a summer car. The previous owner spent £500 having the wood treated. I really happy for you. That's saved you loads of time!

Like the mudflap idea but it seems to far forward tho im sure it's helped and the proof is how solid it is.

Now comes the boring and expensive part ...Reclaiming all the bits and bobs of the wood replacement and interior overhaul in general, then buying whats not reclaimable .

Needs to be done before the wood shows up .the eta for that is mid may now so with treating and staining wont be ready for me to fit before early June I expect.

Started getting the interior panels and headlining so far.
Hope to finish removing the rest of the wood and get bits together before the wood shows up. Im also hoping to fit the aux. battery and split charging wiring too.

Had another go at the wood today .
Looks like somebody already repaired the [step] at the lower part of the b post and it looks like a solid repair , A small patch is all it needs so I gave it all a quick coat of rust neutralizer and moved on to infamous post captive nut problem,

I knew of the problems that this area can bring, so I cut the wood off exposing the bolts so I could add penetrating oil to loosen things up and get on them with a mole wrench. It seems to of done the trick with all but the two lower ones [those have the nuts moving in the captive cages] so I shall workout the best solution there. Im thinking of cutting a small opening to get access on the inner side of the post so I can repair the captive cages then welding it back up, This area is normally just painted steel I think but I may just cover it in the same colour vynal as the panels I got.

Rust neutralizer worked...
Im a firm believer in this ....the solution i use stops rust on propellers in salt water so I know it works on cars ,these areas will never rust again if protected.

Can you post up a link to this 'Rust Neutralizer', it sounds interesting, especially if it's good enough for marine use.
Plenty of Copper grease on your threads should prevent them from seizing in future, just in case you ever need to undo them again.
Looks like you've been really lucky with the metalwork on her! :P
Best wishes,
Mike.

I have used it extensively on many projects over many years and never seen a rusty area coated with it continue to rust.

I normally cover an area I use it on with a thin layer of underseal . I wouldn't however use it on a surface to be painted as I have had the odd paint reaction to it but it depends of the paint type I think.

I've got access to all my box sections at the moment that I'm going to fill with dinitrol but some rust converter sprayed in first would be good.

Final push to remove the wood.

This was not an easy job....The theme was to save as many panels as possible, hopefully all are reclaimable ..

This is not for the faint-hearted , much harder than it looks.

Now to clean it all up and reclaim all the reusable parts..A couple of bits of welding to do but I feel lucky there was not more than I found.

Still need to work out a solution to a few bolts that have got the captive nuts spinning in the b posts.
