A Problem with some of the water based rust converters is that, according to some instructions anyway, you Need to wash off the treated Surface after letting it work itself in for up to 48 hours, otherwise the residue does unwanted things.. This is fine and good for accessible Areas but what about the inside of Chassis rails, for example? Trying to wash them out afterwards would seem like a near impossible exercise.

I need one new heritage wing but the other one was sound but contaminated by what looked like a brake fluid spill.

Took me most of the weekend sealing sanding and painting but I have saved it . A lot of work but a good wing cost a lot so worth it I think.

Wood showing up Wednesday and new panels hopefully Tuesday so that phase can finally begin. A long wait for the wood but well worth the wait to get the best.

Purchased a whole set of new alloy panels from Bull Motif for the rear of the traveller and they tell me the rear panel for the nearside dont come with the fuel filler hole cut out.

How can this be, it has a different part number from the off side yet I get two identical bits one I can't use.?

I think I learned a lesson about bull motif on this purchase Firedrake.

I find ESM's site much easier to use . Bull motif confuses the hell out of me. ESM are also excellent for next day delivery. Can you not send back to BM the offending panel and order a new one from ESM. In my view the NS panel ought to come pre drilled as per the ESM panel,esp if there is a different part no. It does not appear to be fit for purpose.

I cannot even find an image for them on BM.

a) the NS is a mirror of the OS b) not what you ordered, c) not fit for purpose. You have a statutory right to a refund.

Bull Motif now tell me I might get a useable panel on tuesday ....

Wouldn't it be fairly simple to just make a hole in it rather than be held up? Most new panels I have bought have required a certain amount of work doing to them prior to fitting - the rear wings for example come with no fixing holes.

Yes if would if it was a normal hole ,this hole is an oval shape and is probably laser cut into the panel.

I agree there is fettling and then there are significant alterations. In this case I think the retailer may have been somewhat lazy and sent the wrong part and initially refused to admit it. It is always worth shopping round as different 'specialists' have differing prices, specs and certainly differ when it comes to delivery costs / speed of dispatch.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect the hole to be present but, if it wasn't I would simply make it using the original panel as a pattern, scribing around it and drilling around the aperture. Then clean up the edge afterwards. I would regard that as a simple process in the grand scale of car restoration. The hole doesn't have to be very neat or accurate as it is covered on both sides and won't show once assembled. I wouldn't be held up by it. If I couldn't do that, rather than wait several days for a part to be delivered I would probably get in my car and go and collect it. England is a small country after all.
It probably isn't realistic to run these old cars that we choose to and obtain perfect parts, so cheaply and with free fast delivery? You won't get that service from a new car main dealer after all

If no panel shows up I will be cutting the one I have.
I sometimes set myself unrealistic goals but thats how I get the work done.

This weekend was going to be all about painting the panels ,its not the end of the world just a real shame not to get to where I wanted to get to by the end of the weekend.

Yes, I know what you mean. You DO have to maintain a decent rate of progress to complete a restoration - and the weather at present is perfect for a bit of spraying. Delays can be frustrating and you have to find a way around them. Hope you get the panels painted soon .

new order now with ESM [rear wing and misc.] Still got panel probs unresolved with Bull Motif.

However a whole new phase opened with preserving and staining the wood
Slowly a whole room filling up with parts

Base preserver/weak stain coat on , Now a few weeks preserving and staining, I will give it three days to dry in between treatments this will allow me to finish painting the panels. Im hoping to end up with a nice light oak colour The second coat starting to bring the grain out nicely

That looks lovely quality wood,and nicely prepped which makes all the difference; hopefully it will fit ok, where did you get it?

I got the wood from Steve and Tim Forman at Woodies.

They took the time to get the outter graining just perfect....A long wait but well worth it for the quality and fit.
