I think minors are probably stolen cause there easy to get into, can be started with a screw driver and can be broken down for parts relatively easy, these parts can then be flogged off cheaply.
There not too rare as to arouse suspicion either
A good condition car can be broken for about a grand surely? if you include gearbox engine wings interior etc. Which is quite a good profit to work ratio!
With the acsessibility of ebay youve got a nice easy market to tap into.
I suggest keeping an eye on ebay, you might notice the scrape on the wing where the gate post jumped out at you or something simular.

Isn't that the point? Aren't we the nice easy market? If cars are being stolen to break for Ebay (I'm not 100% convinced), then we're partly responsible? I buy parts through ebay.. could we/should we be demanding to know the origin of the donor vehicle (VIn, Registration etc) and perhaps security etching our own vehicles?

I don't want to contribute to someone's cherished Minor being stolen and scrapped.

No me neither, but i too am guilty of buying off ebay but as far as i can see theres no way to rattify people. Sometimes you spot suspect adds, i wouldnt ever buy from those listings, but there is still a chance there ligit. I rekon 99% of listings are kosher but its just the few who let a brilliant system down. i think most people have just come to accept it.

i cant really think of any other way these stolen minors end up, they could be exported but most countries when re-registering for another country require the origional uk registration, at this point it would be obvious it was stolen.

The other option is putting plates from an identical but knackered car onto the stolen one, this way you could sell it on easily.
the only way to tell this apart fromthe real deal is the lack of documentation old bills etc showing its been kept in good nick.
The only problem then is getting rid of the old shell, but i guess you could take it to a scrappy and say you lost the v5 or something.

i doubt the feds could arrest anyone for having a garage full of spare moggy parts, as long as there was no vin numbers etc. If they could thered be a fair few people on this forum in jail! we all seem to have a stockpile for "rainy days"

It would be interesting to find out what happens to them. My bet is still on breaking for spares tho. Is there any police records or anything showing what happens?

I think vehicle tracking will end up being the only solution to stopping this, as stolen cars could be tracked to the thief immediately, and brought to justice before they get a chance to strip the car.

I had my copy of minor matters through today, and reading the article in there i got a bit emotional. I really do hope this minor is found, as josh put so much love into it.

josh put alot of effort into saving this moggy and getting it on the road. other wise it would still be in the bush by now rotting away.
only for some selfish person to ruin all of his work by steeling it .

broken for spares seems plausible as good parts are easily sold
more likely through small adds in classic car mags, ebay is of particular interest as well
i do buy parts off ebay but only new old stock the same at autojumbles as well

So sorry to hear this, my minor van i owned recently had atempted theft twice, the main reason i sold the van was it was so high risk i was finding and getting way to much attention, of the wrong people. its very sad that society has gone like this. i have since got upgraded security and sorted my garage so its no longer a storage place for junk i can now get a car in. So im now looking for a Minor again. Sadly ive noticed a growing amount of vehicle id's for sale on ebay, which is helping these theives to ring another minor, i have reported these adverts to ebay as soon as i see them listed for id only..... then people can buy a cheap rotten minor of there and use that id to ring a stolen minor, sadly minors are far to easy to ring.....

TOTALLY agree with you on that Paul!!

Shame enthusiasts don't register their vehicles details with me, makes "ringing" VERY difficult!
