Grey split screen convertible NNM 473 (Essex)

Post by LouiseM »

Just spotted this message on ebay regarding a split screen convertible which was stolen in Essex yesterday after breaking down and being left at the side of the road. Please keep an eye out for it:

Well -I certainly wouldn't just abandon my car at the side of the road! Crazy!! It probably just needed a new coil - and off it would go again. :-?

Be fair Roy, you have years of experience, and tons of spares in the boot, not everyone does.
Nobody deserves to have their car stolen, no matter the circumstances.

Here's a link from a local paper regarding the theft. The driver was a female on her own who left the car to get some help and returned to find it stolen. The ebay message has been removed now for some reason but it said that the car had overheated in a bad traffic jam. I sent a message to the owner via ebay to let her know that I had posted the details on here and that members would be keeping an eye out for it. Hopefully she won't be too disheartened by reading BMC's responses to the theft, which as can be seen from the other messages do not reflect the views of others here. Let's hope that the car gets found soon.

No - I NEVER leave my classics at the side of the road. If it were to break down I would use my mobile to call up the rescue service (which is free with the classic insurance) and stay with the car, if I couldn't fix it myself. A single female could request priority - and if in any fear of danger could call the Police for help. I suggest wandering off down the road is more dangerous than staying locked in the car till help arrives. As I am sure many realise - I often post comments intentionally to cause discussion, and in this case hopefully to make others think twice before abandoning their cherished classic at the side of the road. I've certainly noticed 'charlie' seemingly running a campaign against me recently...... I NEVER let the forum become personal - it's a forum for discussion - it needs some 'life' to keep the discussion going, otherwise we would all be driving around with headlamp peaks/marina disc breaks(sic)/box full of spare coils........
Of course I feel sorry for the person who has lost this car, contrary to popular opinion I'm not a completely heartless b&*!$rd, (and yet again a secret petrol pump switch could well have saved it.....) and hopefully the discussion will have wised up others to the risks out there!

I dont know the area at all, but the A130 sounds very much like a trunk road.

The car may have broken down in a dangerous position and being a Trunk road it is probably monitored well by CCTV and a mobile traffic patrol who operate for a local trunk road agency. The local Trunk road agency, may have towed it away from danger. If the owner had stayed with the car they would have arrived with traffic cones etc and protected the car whilst help was arranged to get it running again, but because there was no owner present it may have been towed away to safety.

It may be worth checking with the local trunk road agency and ask if theyve towed it away to theyre compound, it may not be even stolen at all?

The link has now been removed from ebay. Has the car been found now?

If the car has been stolen however I sincerley hope the car is returned to its rightful owner.

Regards
