Morris Minor Owners Club

Classic Car weekly reported an e-type being stolen on September 1st from a Basildon, Essex car show where the owner left it for a short time, and it was seen on CCTV being driven out just 15 minutes before he returned. I know it is not a moggie but I felt it needed highlighting as a potential problem for minor owners too.

If anyone has seen a deep yellow (darker than 'primrose') 1964 3.8 e-type anywhere registered 4836 BH, then it would be great if a minor owner could be the one who rings Essex Police on 101 to report it.

Thanks for the posting Bugsy, as fellow enthusiasts I am sure we all feel for this poor owner and would dearly love to get the car back to it's rightful owner.

Yes, it would be nice to think that the owner will be re-united with his stolen car. However, the fate of many stolen 'High Value' classics is that they are stripped down in a back-street hide away, and the parts are sold on (usually overseas).

I'm concidering setting up some sort of database to cater for stolen Minors.

What do members think?

A good Idea, as said, go for it.

Surely the main club has some sort of list/database of cars that have been reported as stolen that could perhaps be shared amongst the members?

MY idea was to record every numbered major component of a Minor, making it more difficult to sell items like engines/rear axles/gearboxes and of course bodyshells. Wouldn't surprise me if a MMOC member unwittingly bought an item from a stolen car....do enthusiasts check numbers, hardly check chassis numbers before they buy, let alone anything else!

Only received 2 copies of BMIHT Certificates since I mentioned setting up a STOLEN database, so the lack of interest speaks volumes!

Making it more difficult for the criminals is the ONLY way to tackle car crime, when they realise there's more to swapping chassis plates and a respray they MAY think twice!
