Could the club consider sending a letter to all members ref security due to the recent spate of thefts?
Maybe with an emphasis not on what to do when the car is nicked, but instead on prevention, diskloks etched windows etc?
It seems people are only even now thinking after the event about security and anti theft devices.

This subject has been covered on here many times, and also in Minor Matters. It would cost a lot to send an individual letter to everyone. Note that the club has a special discount scheme with SmartWater - see advert under Classified in Minor Matters.

I think the amount of security people have on their cars is a reflection of how much they value them, after all people can't say they've not heard a car theft. :o

I thought a letter wouldnt be too expensive.
Perhaps a sticker for the cars that belong to people who think they live in Disney not the real world.
Something for the drivers side window that says "please consider nicking my motor as I have no security at all"
Which is why I park it on the street.

Royal Mail second class 55p plus printing & envelope, x approx 8,000 members = approx £4,500. What subscription would you like set for next year?

Mr.Commonsense is here!

Stamp chassis numbers behind battery.

Together with a MEGA database recording ALL available identification numbers - been doing this myself for many years - now up to 80odd pages, only takes an hour each week to update, so not a problem.

I try my best to stress the importance of security & noting ID numbers - vin plate will be changed if being cloaned so need to record more numbers - also cars going slowly past your car....log the regn & model.

Not advocating you should concider EVERYONE you see paying interest in your car a potential thief...BUT..

Like I wrote, it's been convered IN the magazine. As others have written, it is surely up to each owner how much they value their car. Perhaps it's time to draw a line on this?

If the only objection was cost I offered a solution to the postage expense,
if there are no other objections and no real further costs then I don't see the problem.
The aims of the club are to promote the possession use and enjoyment offered by ownership of the Morris Minor, the message regarding how to keep villains from negating those aims clearly is not getting to the membership is my point, proven by the fact that people are still losing their pride and joy because they didn't fit security measures.
"surely it is up to each owner" is correct, but they pay a membership fee for all the above and to be offered some form of help, the most basic is how to keep that possession.
But if the club do not feel that is part of their remit then by all means "draw a line on this"
I thought the clubs main remit and existence was to help fellow owners.
