exhaust noise

hello all
ive just fitted a new stainless exhaust to my 63 saloon and it does sound a bit more throuty than my old mild steel one, also if i give it a rev i'm rewarded with a loud raspy noise from the tailpipe,
does this sound normal ?

Stainless seems to resonate in a different way.

On some cars the change in note is more noticeable and sometimes less desirable.

If, like me you find the Stainless Minor exhaust noise far too noisy you could
consider adding an extra straight through box at the rear between the petrol
tank and the spring. This makes things much more civilised but, if you use
other than stainless steel there it will rot very quickly as it doesn't get hot
enough at the rear to burn off the condensation inside.

Brill isnt it just to show off to those around you if they still havent noticed that you own a minor! A friend of mine has a split screen traveller and every time you change gear it does it also going down hills with your foot of the accelerator is brillant, more noise in the traveller!!

mine makes that exact noise down hill with foot of the accelerator, i find it annoying can i make it tolerable or am i stuck with it ?.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Don't tell anyone but,

I put a reliant robin silencer on the back of my traveller. It was the right bore to slip straight onto the standard system. £9 from my local motor factor. I just cut 2 ft off the tail pipe and fitted it -even the clamp lined up.

Result, no noticeable change in performance and a very quiet motor.
I expect there will loads of comments about back preasure etc, but it worked.

CARHILEY, as I stated earlier you can get rid of that awful noise by adding
a straight through silencer at the rear between the rear spring and the petrol
tank.

The Faaaarrrrrrrrt is caused by the position of the front silencer - if you really want rid of it - then you need to cut out the silencer and fit a straight pipe - and then put some other silencer at the rear of the car. I suppose you could turn the pipe at rt angles and fit a silencer crosswise just behind the fuel tank to exit at the driver side.

When I have a saloon with a bit of sound proofing between me and the exhaust I will glory in the celbratory noise!!
