I check mine with a simple home-made gauge - mine is Dexion, but you could make a wooden one !

Trouble is these days they want the setting in degrees. Most tyre fitters woulld not know what 3/32 (according to my W.S. manual) was if it bit them on the axxx.

When they don't know they usually set it to zero degrees which doesn't work properly, needs to have some toe in.

when i went to get my tracking done i gave them the measurements. but they didnt need them as they had a fancy laser guided computer system that had morris minor tracking measurements dialled in already. i sat in reception infront of a pc screen and watched as they adjusted it and the measurements of the car lined up with the pre determined measurements.
that was merit tyres in ashford middlesex/ sunbury on thames

out of intrest if you put wider tyres onto the car what should the tracking be adjusted to then? or do you keep the original tracking values.

Jeff - mine is a simple elongated U shape in dexion. It sits on the ground - with the two 'arms' resting on the tyre sidewalls - at hub height. Only one arm touchs the tyre - I then measure the gap between other tyre and gauge arm, using a 6" steel rule. Move it round the back, slipping it under the car - and again one arm against the tyre - and measure the gap to the other. Then compare measurements. I then usually roll the car forward 1/2 turn - and repeat. I can do the measuremets 3 times - and get the same reading each time, so I reckon it works ok!

I have the 'wheel alignment' setup on my wifes MINI where all four wheel are adjustable for everything! and like you flowersGTR I watched it all moving on the screen. Drives so much better, but it cost over £90!!!

I think the modern equivalent is 0.4 of a degree toe in.
