Hi all im using a Type 9 in a project im building.
I have a couple of questions.
firstly, I can only see one plug on the side to access the inner chamber, presumably this is for filling and checking the level. how do you drain the box?
the other question I have is regarding the output shaft. On my box it is a splined output and slips on and off freely (like a minor propshaft) there is what looks like half a bearing seat on the shaft. in this correct?
On the rubber doughnut is there any way to avoid the bolt heads hitting the rear of the housing? on my box by the time the "bearing seat" on the shaft is near the rubber seal in over the output shaft the bolt heads lock the output to the casing.

Obviously that's no good - there must be something missing! Did I not read before that these boxes are filled for life - there is no drain ?

Re: Type 9 output shaft
On my Midget type-9 conversion it uses a propshaft without the doughnut, more like a Morris or Midget splined section onto a Universal joint.

Re: Type 9 output shaft
I was thinking of removing the bolts, drilling out the holes and cutting M12 or M14 threads into the metal piece, then bolt the doughnut to it from the rear, I think there would be the clearance needed, alternatively maybe the bearing seat I looked at is a decoy and the shaft is designed to sit out of the box a little to allow for suspension movement like on the minor?

Here's a closeup from my sig pic showing the prop arrangement on mine
I have since dispensed with that flexi crossmember & fitted a decent one from JLH so no more vibrations & the chassis feels more taught with it http://www.jlhmorrisminors.co.uk/store/ ... at&catId=7 [frame][/frame]

Re: Type 9 output shaft
thats a totally different uj type to the ones ive got, it looks like the shaft slides on the spline and doesnt need to contact the bearing seat I mentioned,

Well you learn something every day. I always thought of a Type 9 as a German submarine.
