Do you have a breather control valve? If so a split diaphragm will produce impressive smoke screens. Ask me how I know.... :roll:

Hi Neil,
Er - I've never heard of one of those .. where would I find one on the car? Presumably in the pipe from the carburettor area to the engine head cover ?

Not sure it was ever fitted on a minor, but standard on early 1275 Midget engines. If it's not obvious (like a mushroom sitting on the top of the inlet manifold) you don't have one!

Shame, as it's an easy fix for huge smoke screens! My 1969 Midget had that problem back in the 1980's

I have to agree with those who say "worn engine".

If it has recently been re-build, I would question the effectiveness of the re-build.
