noise - drivers side - front
When going over bumps with the right hand side wheel there is a banging/thumping sound - the bump stop is in place, new track rod ends and the trunnions are fine. Could this be the torshion bar joint at the front - could the bushes need replacing in here??????????????

banging
heck that the damper bolts are done up tight(an awkward job to
undo the lock tabs but well worth while). I mean where the damper
is bolted to the bulkhead

Check Willies suggestion first, but could be lots of things:
Wear in the damper bushes causing the arm to knock.
Master cylinder bolts are reversed & the nuts hitting the torsion bar.
Worn suspension bushes at the chassis eyebolt.
Worn bushes at the tiebar/chassis mounting.

I suppose the pistons inside the damper can wear, but usually the wear that causes knocking will be in the bush inside the body where the shaft exits (to join the arm).alainmoran wrote:Damper or shock? ... I didnt realise the dampers could wear, I just thought you had to refill them ... how do you check for wear?
The only way to really check is to disconnet the damper from the trunnion/upright. you can then try to move the arm backwards & forwards. If it's worn, you'll feel slight movement here.
A wet damper is a good sign that the front bush is worn. Often the extra sideways movement causes the seal to wear.
You can also check for wear with the damper mounted in a vice to hold it secure.
