Unleaded 1275 Head

Post by davecattle »

Can anyone please help provide information on machining required when crrying out an unleadeded conversion on a 1275GT Morris head. Our friends in Cyprus are having problems in getting the work done. I have sourced the parts and now need to know what machining is required including sizes & tolerences.

Many thanks

Although replying to your request I have not got a specific answer, but my understanding of the subject is that the valve guides should be in good order, if not replace them, the proceedure for fitting hardened seats involves using the guides to locate the machining operation. I do not know the actual dimensions of seat and machined recess, but I believe that the head is heated and the seat is frozen so in effect you have a shrink fit. Having got the seats I would think that any reputable engineering company could measure them and say what diameter to cut the head, to ensure that the seats stay in position. In fact the seat supplier should have this info.
