From an earlier post I have to very reluctantly replace our 40 year old, and 90,000 mile steel 13" x 5.5" wheels with alloys, as we had 2 centres crack a couple of weeks ago on the Euroclassic run down to Rome and back.
I am fairly ceratin that we will fit a 'Minilite' style wheel, but 13" or 14" diameter? Either way they will be either 5.5" or 6" wide. My first thought is to stay with 13" and then I can still use the same Yokohama A021R tyres, which just happen to the 'standard' tyre for an oval racing series, so are very very reasonably priced. Low profile 14" are more than double the price.
Does anyone have pictures they could post please?

14 inchers.

I think these are 13's, it's not my pic!
but you sound like you've already decided on the 13's for the more readily available tyres.
personally i think 13's look too small, 14's are ok, but even then look a bit small at the wrong angles. My Monty should be getting 15's all being well

15" look great and really fill the arches - but I think if I were you, I would be sticking with the 13" and the same tyres..

Thanks very much for the pictures. Still thinking which way to go. Problem is I don't want alloys, but have no choice really so it's make our minds up time!

Re: What size alloys to fit?
can you not modify steel rims to reinforce the area that cracks. it surely must crack due to cyclic fatigue, so if you can take the flex out of it, it shouldn't crack?
could gussets or ribs be welded on the inside of the rim? taking care to not catch anything on the inside ofcourse.
