Speedo Gears
I am still researching speedo gearing and if anyone has an 803 box out of the car I would be grateful if they could count the speedo pinion and drive gear teeth for me. The workshop manual only gives the 948 5/13

Re: Speedo Gears
Ah, that explains why I found a 1000 tpm 80 mph gold speedo at an autojumble, which was exactly what I was looking for. It looked exactly like a Minor head, but I didn't know what is was from. The Toyota 5-spd has a 3.5 speedo drive and the combination of that, a 3.9 diff and 185/70x13 tyres means I needed 980 tpm.
The Series II head is spot on! Since getting it I have fitted a '120' outer dial face from a kph speedo head, courtesy of 2 kind members of this forum, and then had the 'speed' bit recalibrated, but the odometer is the original Series II 1000 tpm and is very accurate indeed. Never thought it would have been from the 'magic wand' box??

Re: Speedo Gears
Thanks folks, I knew that the 803 gearing must be different as the TPM did not fit the usual system. 948, 1098 and 1275 are presumably all 5/13. I just need to measure the 918 box for the set.
The Mk 1 Mini is 6/17
