Timing Chain Purchase

Post by MColes »

Anyone any recommendations on where to get a simplex timing chain?

Not a couple of quid special like I bought from one of the well known suppliers as couple of weeks ago as part of a timing chain kit. I'd only done about 500 miles and it developed a rattle! (Actually more of a hollow knock as there was so much play it in :o Took the front apart again and the damn thing has more play in it than the chain I took off!

Any links to known good parts would be appreciated.

Buy the complete Simplex kit with tensioner from Minispares or Minisport. It works, and doesn't rattle.

Will I then require the mini style timing chain cover as well?

Yes, and it has become very expensive in recent months.

I noticed the price! It's BMC's fault for recommending it all the time

It just annoys me that the simplex chains aren't any good (though what can you expect for ~£4?). Wish I had left the old chain on there now with its slight rattle! :(
