Steering arm greasing point

Post by John159 »

When I try to grease the left and right grease nipples of the arms which connect to the stearing rack mechanism the greese squirts out from underneath the 'dish ' shaped washer. The original washer had a split in it and I fitted a good dish shaped washer and the same thing happened. Why is this washer part of the design and why does the grease squirt out?

Probably because the old grease is packed hard in the joint. Or possibly the gun is not a tight fit on the nipple. One trick is put a piece of cloth over the nipple.....

Could you post a photo. I think that you're writing about the Track Rod Ends, but they do not have washers under the grease nipple. Depending on the design, it may be quite normal for the old grease to come out of the TRE as you pump new grease in. However, it should not come out around the nipple. If the nipple is blocked then unscrew it and soak in oil before using s thin rod to dig out the old grease before refitting.
