Jumps out of second
I need to fix a gearbox that jumps out of second gear on deceleration. Does anyone know the name of the part that causes this? Thanks.
Also, anyone got an old 1098 gearbox for sale that I could recondition, and then swap out over a weekend?

That's strange R2, the damage doesn't look so bad from here!

Re: Jumps out of second
Iv been told you fix these boxes, not replace them. Maybe find someone to remove it and fix it for you if you cant. Good luck.

Thanks. But seeing as the ad is pretty old I think it might have gone by now. interesting to know that a Midget box would fit - opens up some extra possibilities.Declan_Burns wrote:This seems to be a good buy although it states reserved but not confirmed.

Re: Jumps out of second
My Austin A30 had the same kind of problem some years ago. Gearbox was rebuilt by A guy called John Evans who advertises in the club magazine. It's been fine ever since and not silly expensive.
Re: Jumps out of second
As long as it's only jumping out on the over-run, the box will go on for years. Just don't use second on the way down the box. After all - gears are for going and brakes are for slowing.... And don't attempt to hold it in with the lever - that just wears out the selector fork !
Re: Jumps out of second
as above,I had an mgb that did the same, sold it to my friend 5 years ago still doing it but still going strong, its when it slips out of top or third on overrun that you have a problem

Re: Jumps out of second
My van jumps out of second on the odd occasion and I have learned to put up with it. If it gets worse them I will get it repaired or put my spare gearbox in it. My Midget also jumps out of first and I put up with it.

Re: Jumps out of second
Jumping out of first is much more serious - and will do serious damage. Don't let it happen. Just use 1st to get it gently rolling...
