948 Engine / 1098 gearbox - what clutch kit???

Post by rogerowen »

I'm about to swap out my gearbox and I would think it prudent to replace the clutch at the same time. I have a 948 engine and a 1098 gearbox fitted. My question is - should I fit a new 1098 clutch kit or a 948 one?????????????? :o :o :o

You will have to fit the same as you already have.

The clutches are a different size. Overall diameter of the flywheel is the same, but the contact surface for the driven plate is different for sure. As above, you'll have to find what you've got before you know what to buy.

If you have a pressed engine backplate there's a good chance you'll have a 948 flywheel and clutch.
If it's a solid machined one it'll be 1098, but you won't know 100% until you take the box off.

Look through the inspection hole in the gearbox clutch housing and you should be able to see the clutch pressure plate
