The number stamped onto the body (ringed by red pen) is the Car Chassis number and that number should be stamped on the identification plate located above right of the control box.
Well at least mine is and is as per BMC general information sheet No: 6, Morris Minor Issue 3 37720.

I can only tell you what is described in the BMC wksp manual for the Minor.
The stamped chassis number (circled in red) does not have prefix letters it is just a number and should match the number on the alloy plate.
The number on the alloy plate is prefixed with letters and numbers followed by the car chassis number.

Maybe that the stamped chassis number is different for export cars but I would have expected the number stamped into the stamped body and the stamped alloy plate to be the same.

Does anyone on here have any more details/information?
Phil

The number on the car should match the number on the plate.
If they don't match this could mean that the car has received a new identity at some point in its life.
Either the car has received a new body (just like fitting a new engine or gearbox from another car)
while the identity on the plate is kept, or the aluminium plate has been changed over for some reason or other.

It would beinteresting to see which number is recorded in the car registration documents?

My 1957 has no number there nor on the floorpan - long since replaced. Just those two strips at the top of the bulkhead and on the original removable identification plate.

My Minor made in 1957 has the number in the same place on the dashboard as shown in the BMC illustration above.
