Engine steady bar

I have started a new thread on engine steady bars to separate the discussion from the expensive traveller thread.

Can someone please post a clear photo of a factory welded steady bracket for comparison with a factory bolted in steady bracket.

For what it’s worth, here is a picture of mine.

Appears to be bolted to two anchorages. One bolted under the battery tray and the other welded.

No idea what’s original, but the welding does not look like Factory original quality.

It’s a 67 Traveller.

Many thanks for the pictures.
I have never seen that type of engine steady fixed bracket on a Minor before.

My own engine steady bracket which was welded place when I removed the battery tray is somewhat similar to the bracket welded to your damper mounting cross member but is not a factory item but fabricated and welded in place by myself.

Like Phil, I have never seen anything quite like that either. I would say that the welded part is definitely not original.

I believe it was a Charles Ware restoration about 8 years ago (I’ve had her 2 years). A mildly uprated 1275 was fitted.

Perhaps they got it with just the welded anchorage and added or put back the bolted one for extra strength.

Curiouser and curiouser!

Looking at a copy of the BMC Body Service Parts List dated 1966 I found this:

Chassis No. 1194884 appears to be 1967 production, so later than the Body manual, BUT as it is in the Body manual, rather than the 'Mechanical Parts List', is this the introduction point of the elusive 'welded on' bracket?

The BMC Mechanical Service Parts List dated 1967, shows the 'bolt from the rear' bracket being introduced from Chassis No. 448801, and still in use at the time of manual in 1967:

The body manuals are a good reference and agree with what I've got on paper, but here are some more photos to confirm/confuse...

1961 Traveller, as expected, bolt through (yes, I know it's rusty):

1969 Traveller that we expect to be welded as it's after the 1968 saloons, but is bolt through:

It does seem that there was a changeover around 1967-69, possibly different for saloons and travellers, or possibly between sites.

More confusion from me.

Blue 68 2 door = bolted
White 66 van =welded (but removed by me to fit a "Grumpy")
Black 60 4 door = bolted

It looks like it's a case of if Bert was on shift then he welded them, but when Harry was working, he couldn't weld and so he bolted them instead...
