unusual engine prefix
My engine which I believe was originally a 998 has an engine prefix 9AUH I presume the 9 indicates that it is , or was a 998, but was wondering if the AU meant Australia, Just curious.

Re: unusual engine prefix
No, I doubt it is anything to do with Australia.
As I understand it, 9 refers to engine capacity, A for Austin, U to denote central gear change and H for high compression.
I guess you have an Austin engine fitted......

Re: unusual engine prefix
I think a 99 prefix denotes a 998cc engine. So, yes, I believe your engine was originally a 948cc.
For Minors, it is quite simple: 8 = 803cc, 9 = 948cc and 10 = 1098cc.

Re: unusual engine prefix
9...…….948cc.
A...…….Austin.
U...…...Central gear change.
H...…...High compression.
99 does indeed indicate a 998cc engine as fitted to classic Mini & Metro.
