Catch cans venting

Post by niftyrodman »

If I simply connected a catch can to the base of the block, probably the fuel pump plate, and aired it through the can and filter top, will that improve crank case ventilation, without applying vacuum to it.? As the rocker is vented to the HS2 carb cleaner, and there is a bit of air flow there, so no vacuum available if I teed it to that. Only other thing I could do would be to drill and tap the inlet manifold , in the centre, and my concern that might be too much draw. Not sure. Your experience might save me time.

Just fit a 1098cc front cam follower (tappet) chest cover (with oil separator) and connect that via a 'T' piece to the rocker cover/air cleaner pipe.
Any oil caught by the oil gauze inside the oil separator will drain back into the sump. Fumes will be expelled to the air cleaner.
Or go the whole hog and fit a PCV plumed into the manifold as per later Minor engines. All parts are available to complete the conversion.
