Trafficator issue

Post by lornab »

I have a 1959 Morris Minor & have noticed that the trafficator on the left has broken (not snapped off altogether) - where can I get a replacement & is it an easy job to do? I am also thinking of upgrading to flashing indicators soon 🙂.

It is probably just the orange plastic lens (and perhaps the metal cover?) which is damaged. You can purchase aftermarket parts cheaply from most Morris Minor specialists but original, and rather better quality Lucas parts will take more searching. The trafficator is a Lucas SF80. Some searching on google should find what you need. It is best to remove the trafficator from the car (just 2 screws - once you've removed the interior trim panel) and then you can clean and oil the moving parts at the same time. Lots of information on the internet and also in the car's handbook if you have it?
I have added flashing indicators to my own car. I don't think trafficators alone are very visible on todays roads. It isn't too difficult to do and they can be wired in to work alongside the trafficators or completely separately with a 2nd switch as you wish.

Flashing bulbs for trafficators are also available.
