Can anyone recommend a source of "good quality" +0.040" piston rings please.
I have just discovered to my dismay that I have a couple of broken rings on my new old stock pistons that I am about to use on my engine rebuild.
Thanks
Phil

Re: Piston Rings
What engine are they going into and what pistons do you already have and are about to fit?

Re: Piston Rings
Hi Phil
They are for a 1098 engine and are the ones you recommended I purchased about a year ago.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Austin-A40-c ... Swf05bB7Bu
Just got my block back from the borers and thought I would check the piston clearance, only to find I have two broken rings on one piston.
It is the top ring and the second ring that are broken, the third ring and the oil ring are OK.
I have no idea how it has happened because they were fine when they arrived in the post last year and have not been touched since.

Re: Piston Rings
Unfortunately these things happen
ESM sell plus 0.040" piston rings
https://www.morrisminorspares.com/engin ... pe-p830135
Here is an individual piston ring set:

I would consider replacing all of the rings especially as two have broken for no known reason. You do not want to have a broken ring occur after assembling the engine.
Having the rings break now may be a blessing in disguise.

Re: Piston Rings
That was my train of thought too.
It is possible to buy just one new piston from the same ebay supplier and rob the rings from it, but as you say there is no guarantee more will not fail during or after the rebuild.
If you think the ESM rings are decent quality I will just fit a new full set from them.

Re: Piston Rings
Whilst I have never used ESM piston rings I have no concerns over their usage. I am certain that they will be perfectly ok and give you good service. I have never seen or heard any bad opinions/reports regarding the ESM rings.
