SU HIF38

Post by Captain flint »

Having confused all you helpful people out there and myself included!
I thought best If I started again with a new post, all being my fault.
Right,let’s start again.
I have fitted a 1275 Ital engine in my Minor with an SU HIF 38 carb. This carb. is fitted with a ADS needle, this set up I have since learned came from a lean burn 998 Metro.
So totally unsuitable for my application.
Question is, which needle do I require?
Many thanks for all your patience!
Martin.

Someone with more knowledge than me will be along soon, but my 1275 Trav seems happy with its HS4carb and standard needle.

Looking at Minispares, seems you may want an AAM needle.

Whichever needle you decide on, I would ditch the ram pipe, it will be noisy. I did try a cone filter but that still got on my nerves so I ended up with a 1800 air filter fitted to the original carb to filter plate.

A Mini airbox with a K&N element flows well and is nice and quiet. You will need the carb inlet elbow as well to fit the Mini filter box.
I would agree the AAM would be a good starting point. I have an AAA fitted to my traveller which has a 12G940 head, HS4 with a Minispares alloy inlet manifold and Midget exhaust manifold. It's a 1098 but goes well and the needle seems about right, the AAM is a little richer from mid to top end so should suit the 1275 engine.
Enter the needles on here and you will see the comparison
