Series ii oil pressure gauge connection
Has anyone ever connected an oil pressure gauge found in the dashboard as standard to a morris 1000 engine (instead of the 803) oil pressure switch? Would you get a full scale deflection when the switch is on?

Re: Series ii oil pressure gauge connection
If that gauge is the same as a series MM with the side valve engine it is not electrical but works by the oil passing up a pipe from the block where the oil pressure sender is normally located and moving the needle . So you cannot connect the wire from the oil pressure switch ,you will have to remove the switch and fit a adapter so that you can fit the pipe from the back of the gauge.

Thanks Ian. Are these adapters available for sale or is it something that is machined to fit the sender switch?

Mark,
ESM sell adapters but you should check the thread on the gauge and on the block. Smiths gauges are usually 1/8" BSP. I am not familiar with series II engines.

The interconnection plastic pipe they sell is far too long and not easily shortened and looks horrible anyway.
I would use a copper pipe as used on the MG TD which has 1/8" BSP female connections on both ends. Available from Brown and Gammons.

Don't forget the leather (or fibre) washer. It is very easy to make up your own copper pipe as all the fittings are readily available. If you need help let me know.

The ESM adapter

will suit the Ser 2 with the 803cc engine.
The adapter will take the oil pressure electrical switch and oil pressure pipe. There is no set position for either switch or pipe. Place as you find most suitable.
You will most likely need the additional adapter that fits between the block adapter and the pipe.

I agree with Declan that the plastic pipe looks awful. I have fitted a stainless steel covered pipe. Any excess can be coiled up behind the dash.

As an aside - if you fit the plastic see through pipe and you see air bubbles in the pipe - there is no need to be concerned as the air and oil pressure will equalise to the same pressure. Even if you bleed the pipe you will normally get air back into the pipe as the oil drains back down to the oil pump.
