1275 mg gearbox fitment

Hi there
I have a 1275 mg gearbox, looks the same as a 1098, will the 1275 box bolt straight to the 1098 engine using 1098 clutch, flywheel release bearing fork and engine back plate and gear-lever? I’ll be fitting a 3.9 diff aswell

Although they look the same there are differences.

The midget box is designed to use a hydraulic clutch mechanism, the clutch is different as is the flywheel.

Are you sure you have a 1275 gearbox?

The midget 1275 gearbox will have 22G229 stamped on the input or first motion shaft.
Does the box have wiring for a reversing light or provision to fit a switch on the remote housing?

I have checked the input shaft it does have those numbers and letters stamped and also reverse light switch, it is definitely a 1275, trying to find out if it’s a straight swap over job with everything else that is 1098

Brilliant is there much to gain with the 1275 box and 3.9 diff over 1098 gearbox and 4.2 diff

Before fitting it may be worth carrying out the restraining cable mod suggested by philthehill in another thread;

When fitting the restraining cable bracket to the gearbox drill and tap the screws to 5/16" UNC. The 1/4" UNF screws are not man enough to restrain the gearbox. They were never designed for the restraining job. The restraining cable was an after thought and BMC just used what there was..

I'm currently rebuilding a spare 1098 gearbox ( came with a 1275 Midget as a damaged spare!) and intend doing it whilst I have it in bits.
