Leak from fuel pump
Just noticed a leak from the fuel pump when pumping fuel. It is coming from the joint where presumably the fuel pump diaphragm is located. It is a old pump, possibly original, which occasionally sticks. Question is do I get a replacement diaphragm...approximately £30 from ESM and hope that this solves the problem or “bite the bullet” and get a new electronic pump...approximately £120 from ESM. Any views from some of you experts out there would be appreciated.

Buy the kit and then watch the Youtube from John Twist (?) in the US about rebuilding MGB pumps. Tells you all you need. I've done loads of pumps.

Re: Leak from fuel pump
Unless the car is urgently required, I would strip it down and see what is wrong with it before jumping in and ordering parts.
If it is the original, you may find it requires new points also.
Strip it down first and order all the parts required in one go.

I think this is the video that Rob is referring to, but the quality is poor as it's not in focus, or just made in such low quality.

Re: Leak from fuel pump
If it is old and leaking you might just as well get the full rebuild kit with all the gaskets, seals etc. and make, effectively, a new pump.
Something like this, although currently out of stock: https://www.morrisminorcentrebham.co.uk ... 8cc/epk700

Or in stock here, amongst other places:
http://sucarb.co.uk/fuel-pump-repair-kit-pre-1985.html
https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-AZX1311RK
I certainly wouldn't pay ESM prices just for a diaphragm without stripping it down first to see what is actually needed.
Looking at ESMs prices for the Diaphragm and Points together, you can get a full kit with all the consumables included (gaskets, O rings diode etc).

Re: Leak from fuel pump
As always thanks for the advice. The car isn’t on the road at the moment so I will try getting the kit and have a go at rebuilding it / replacing the parts that are needed.

Re: Leak from fuel pump
Whatever diaphragm/repair kit you purchase make sure that it is suitable for use with ethanol fuel or you will be wasting your money.

Here you go:
https://www.sufuelpump.com/products/aub-6098-diaphragm
I bought one of these Ethanol resistant diaphragms myself, well worth the investment.
And Ethanol resistant fuel hose is also a good idea:

Best wishes,
Mike.

Well Mikes link to 'sufuelpump.com'
is actually an American site.
The link I gave to http://sucarb.co.uk includes an FAQ page where this is stated:

I thought I had posted this info up earlier this afternoon, but clearly I hadn't got it to 'go' properly.Q: Are your parts suitable for modern fuel?
A: Yes our parts are suitable for modern fuels. As a company we have improved our products including fuel hose and floats to be compatible with fuel changes.
