Best place to buy a quality replacement mohair hood?

Post by Pete Bags »

I'm after some advice about where to buy new hood - I'm hoping the forum members can help me out! :D

I'm looking to buy a new burgundy coloured Mohair hood to replace my old tatty vinyl hood. My old hood has never fitted very well, and so I have a local, very well respected car trimmer who will be fitting the hood (I just want to make sure it's fitted as perfectly as possible without saggy bits etc!).

I'm after a high quality hood - can anyone recommend a supplier?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Pete,
Charles ware supply Mohair roofss, although I've not seen one in the flesh.
I have a convertible with a vinyl roof and would be interested how you get on and if the Mohair roof is better/improvement in anyway.
many thanks
Alan

Don Hoods, Birmingham. I'd go nowhere else.

That's a fabulous looking Hood Rob and it looks a very decent fit too, is it easy enough to clean as I had an Mgf mohair hood that stained quite easily.
The mohair roof does look better quality to my vinyl roof which is the same colour as yours.

Rob, many thanks for the Don Hoods steer - they certainly seem to know their products. Your car looks wonderful - with a nicely fitting hood!

Alan - one reason that I want to go from vinyl to cloth, is to have a quieter car! We use the car for long journeys and holidays, and with the hood up, the drumming noise of the wind on the stretched vinyl is loud! The car is actually quieter with the hood down, conversation is definitely easier! Another reason is to keep the car cooler - our trip to France a couple of years ago coincided with a heatwave they were having - on the hottest days, we drove with the hood up to escape the sheer power of the sun, but I understand that cloth hoods can also keep the interior a bit cooler compared to vinyl.

I'm looking forward to comparing the new with the old roof, and will report back with my findings!
