Hi all, finally got myself a traveller, affectionally know at this point as Black beauty (on accout of the previous owner spraying it Matt black, including the wood and the rear windows )
Anyway, For some reason there is a gap of about 1.5 inches at the top of the doors, they won't shut.
could he have the hinges wrong, or have fitted the wrong hinges?
Thanks
Dave

Re: Traveller rear doors
Not wishing to doubt you, but 1.5 inches is one hell of a gap It's more usual for the hinges to drop and then get a slight overlap which makes it difficult to shut. Each of the four hinges is unique, ie top left, bottom left, top right, bottom right, so if they've been off and put back on, then the doors will be out of line. Identification isn't easy, the best thing is to be next to a Traveller with good doors and then work out which hinges on your look wrong.
It would be worth investing in a hinge repair kit (bearing, spring, nut and bolt, it makes alignment better. An even worse thought is that someone has already taken the hinges apart and put the wrong halves back together.
As I say, find a good Traveller and compare to see where yours are wrong. You could even measure the doors just in case someone got too keen with the sander!
Good luck.

Have a search through the message board. Some time ago there were some photos of the rear door hinges posted

Many thanks for the replys, I looked at that thread, and for the life of me can't see the difference in the thread pictures between the top and bottom hindges, where as if you look at the picture of mine, the top hinges definatly slope downwards
and in the second pic, you can see the gap im talking about

Difficult to tell from the picture (matt black doesn't help) but the gaps look pretty even.
....Ohhh! Now I see what you mean! The doors won't close!
My friend's car has the same problem you have to overlap the doors and push pretty hard to get them to close.
Hmmm. They look pretty tight on the outside edges so altering hinges may not help.
I don't want to be the one to mention the dreaded plane....oops already did!

Re: Traveller rear doors
I may be wrong but to me it seems that the top hinges are on upside down and on the wrong side. i.e take the one on the right (as you look at the back) turn it upside down and fit it to the top left side. This will raise the doors.

Compare and contrast with the images here;

I've had a quick look and can't see what's up.
Are van door hinges different to traveller ones in some subtle or not so subtle way?
