I used Dum Dum when I replaced my wood about 20 years ago. I have just replaced some wood and carried out some repairs and found the old Dum Dum has dried and hardened causing it to crack and fail. I found some stuf at a builders merchants called Plumbers Mate which is a black mastick in a tube. It is quite soft and runny but it will seal out the water. It may be more dificult to remove in years to come but this is secondary to stopping the ingress of water behind the wood panels.
My personal opinion is Dum Dum is noy good in this day and age, try someting new!
