fuel tank sender screws
Hi. I lost my fuel tank sender screws when changing the tank. I've replaced them with a set from a parts supplier, but they were such bad quality one of the heads snapped just screwing it in.
Rather than tighten the others and have to extract more sheared bolts I'd rather just buy some stainless decent quality ones from an other supplier...
I found a post on here saying 2BA, but tried that and no luck.
Anyone know?

Re: fuel tank sender screws
Are you saying no luck finding 2BA or you found some and they didnt fit?Brass or chromed brass won't rust either and there's plenty of them around.
Re: fuel tank sender screws
Found 2BA, didn't fit. They were too big.
Re: fuel tank sender screws
That'll be why they snapped.
Re: fuel tank sender screws
The 2BA didn't fit, they were too big.
The set I purchased was 6 fuel sender screws from a Morris minor supplier. They were the correct size but we're made of rubbish metal, which is why they snapped. Correct size, bad quality. Size unknown. Hence my search for a better quality alternative
I take it you don't know, so... Does anyone else?

To be honest I thought they were 2BA but obviously not.

Galvanic action.
Re: fuel tank sender screws
I will avoid stainless then! I'm sure just decent quality mild steel would be fine. It's not rust that I'm trying to avoid, just bad quality.

Someone has come to the conclusion they are 1/8 whitworth, but doesn't confirm it. Might give that a go.

Re: fuel tank sender screws
2 ba would be closer to 3/16 whit , i have whit and ba taps if you need to try them to make sure also have some whit and ba bolts
Re: fuel tank sender screws
2A is 0.1850 in / 4.7 mm, I'd say it was about a mm or so too big (really wish I had a micrometer). Whitworth is the diameter of the thread isn't it? So 3/16 inch = 4.76 millimetres, so that's larger than 2A!bigjim wrote:2 ba would be closer to 3/16 whit , i have whit and ba taps if you need to try them to make sure also have some whit and ba bolts

Heres the readings from my admittedly cheap and cheerful far eastern digital vernier:
2BA 4.55mm 0.179"
4BA 3.55mm 0.135"
Maybe you need 4BA thats about 1mm less?If you do I can send you some if you PM me your address.

Re: fuel tank sender screws
I ordered some 1/8 whitworth, but if they don't fit I'd really appreciate one in the post to test before committing to buy any more, thanks!tysonn wrote:Heres the readings from my admittedly cheap and cheerful far eastern digital vernier:

For info here is a link to a comprehensive BA size chart
http://www.ba-bolts.co.uk/faq.html
Also you can buy the screws for the sender individually or as a set from Moss.

Re: fuel tank sender screws
OP said he bought them in a set that way.
Re: fuel tank sender screws
Purchased them from ESM, another supplier might be better quality.
Going to try drilling out the stub of the old one today...

Re: fuel tank sender screws
When you figger out what size they actually are, can you post it on here so we all can be apprised of it.
FWIW, I see in the BMC parts list that there was a change in sizes somewhere along the way, at car # 294906 (whenever that was) to part # ACA5127, but no mention of the part # for earlier cars. No sizes given either.

Well, the 1/8th Whitworth were far too small! Tiny. The 2BA were closer
