New Gearknob

Bought a new gearknob from a well known supplier.
Removed the existing wooden knob, screwed on the new one - rubber knob pulled straight off of the threaded insert......F@c*ing great!! Now trying to secure the insert with epoxy resin but not very hopeful!

Just to clarify, you are not refering to the new Series MM gearknobs which have a very secure threaded brass insert. They also have a different thread so are not suitable for later cars

No, these items have a very unsecure threaded steel insert which simply pulls out as soon as you lift the lever.

It sounds like the whole batch is faulty so demand a refund including p%p if they want the old one back. I believe that the MMOC sell leather or varnished gearknobs

Yes mine is also a long lever series two knob - I have screwed it onto the lever with a good coating of epoxy so after a couple of days it should be OK.
If not I may have to drill the knob and lever and fit a roll pin to secure the thing once and for all!

Just checked the gearknob - solid as a rock!
Looks like the epoxy resin has worked but keeping the drill and roll pin on standby....Just in case!

I was sent a Seres II gearknob as a sample and managed twist the threaded insert, probably because I over tightened it instead of using a lock nut

The main body of the gearknob needs to be moulded around the insert overlapping the end so that it cannot pull out.
These reproduction items have the insert simply push fitted which is no use at all when you need to apply an upward pull to the gearknob when engaging reverse.
The solution is to either epoxy the damn thing in place and/or fit a roll pin through the knob and gearstick.
