Traveler wood

Post by markandsuefoss »

Just thinking about buying a traveler which is having new wood fitted. It will be treated with Sikkins. Any advice about keeping this? How often do owners re-treat it and what is the process?

Thanks for any advice.

No experience of that - but DO please keep the car indoors in a well ventilated garage and not exposed 24/7 to the weather. And no - a 'car cover' is no use long term.

I refinished my wood myself 4 years ago with Sikkens Cetol Marine Lite and have not had to do anything since. I do wipe the wood down now and then to keep it clean and shiny. I'm right next to the Pacific ocean and it sits outside protected by a good car cover when not in use. Instructions for applying are right on the can of Sikkens in the event you need a redo. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. Is the Cetol Marine Lite a one step process or are there different coats?
